Help us to help others

NationsHeart FoodHut Appeal

NationsHeart operates a FoodHut providing donated food to people in need, as well offering social connection through a weekly community meal.

The FoodHut is housed in an aging transportable building which is reaching the point where it will have to be retired.  A new purpose-built facility is planned, which will allow more space, greater accessibility and flexibility for other community connections to grow.

The FoodHut receives no government support and is staffed completely by volunteers. Around 100 people are supported each year, either as regular members or in crisis response through vouchers or hampers.

Shoppers at the FoodHut have access to a mini market of fresh and packaged foods and other grocery items, where they can choose according to their needs.  With everyday living expenses like rent, electricity and fuel on the rise, the need for access to free and affordable grocery items is rapidly growing.

Other than providing grocery items, the FoodHut is also a community that fosters value and belonging.  Many of the volunteers are people who originally came for help and decided to give back by helping others.

The FoodHut is an official outlet of FoodBank NSW and partners with OzHarvest and Communities at Work.

Donations of just over $50,000 have already been given towards the project – which is estimated to cost around $150,000.
